The sides shared 11 tries in all, with seven of them going to the victors as a powerful closing quarter from their forward pack finally saw South home to a 47-29 victory.
County RU president Malcolm Ross presented the trophies, while Luke Fenton joined him to present the Laurence Fenton County Colts Cup which went to Derby after a 32-17 victory over Hinckley.
Hinckley started quickly, scoring the opening try after just seven minutes and then adding a second for a 14-8 half-time lead. But Derby took the lead for the first time with a converted score early in the second half, and added three more as they showed some clinical finishing to lift the trophy.
