Tigers add Argentina international to squad

Argentina international back-row forward Tomás Leonardi has signed for Leicester Tigers.

The 29-year-old moves to England after spells in South Africa, Scotland and Japan, as well as playing with San Isidro and the Pampas XV in Argentina, and joins Tigers after playing in the Super Rugby season with the Superwolves in Tokyo.

Born in Buenos Aires, Leonardi won the first of 19 Test caps for Argentina in 2008.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: “Tomás has played in 19 Tests for Argentina so he has a lot of international experience.

"He played for the Superwolves in Super Rugby. He has been at Edinburgh and Toulouse, so he has European experience.

"In the light of Mike Williams's injury, we wanted to add some back row cover. We look forward to welcoming him and his wife into the Tigers Family."

Leonardi has been signed in time to be registered for Tigers in this season’s European Champions Cup.
