Pupils and staff from Sir Frank Whittle Studio School enjoyed a visit to the home of Leicester Tigers as part of an educational programme in partnership with club partners Mattioli Woods.
Wealth management provider Mattioli Woods invited the school from Lutterworth to take part in the Leicester Tigers Inside Sport programme, which aims to provide a fun and interactive experience for pupils.
The school is a unique ‘Studio School’ for 14-19-year-olds which offers traditional academic qualifications alongside practical and vocational qualifications as well as work experience opportunities with local employers.
The group enjoyed a behind-the-scenes stadium tour of Welford Road, visiting the changing rooms, press box and trophy cabinet, before taking part in classroom activities and rugby drills on Nelson Mandela Park.
The Inside Sport initiative hopes to inspire youngsters to discover careers available in sport as well as build links with local schools and groups through local rugby.
Alison Cant, business links developer at Sir Frank Whittle Studio School, said: “We’ve been working with Mattioli Woods for about six months as we have a Year 12 business student placed with the company on work experience. Through their links, I was able to contact Leicester Tigers and find out more about the Inside Sport programme and we’ve been lucky enough to be invited down.
“Today, we’ve brought along some of our Year 10 and Year 12 students who are all currently studying for their exams, which include sport diplomas, so we hope they are inspired by their visit.”
