Report | Ruthless hosts Saracens defeat Tigers

Figure image

Hosts Saracens produced a performance as dominant as it was ruthless, defeating Leicester Tigers at StoneX Stadium.

Although Natasha Jones kicks us off, Saracens thump back a clearance granting Tigers early possession.

Jenny Maxwell sends props Nadine Vincent and Abbey Constable into contact. Both make solid post-contact metres but Marlie Packer then gets over the ball and wins a turnover.

From here, Tigers barely have a sniff as the hosts simply dominate possession and the scoreboard.

Red Rose Zoe Harrison gets a hat trick, while her international team mate Marlie Packer grabs two, scrum half Leanne Infante and centres Emma Hardy and Sophie Bridger get the sixth, seventh and eighth as the hosts blow Leicester away.

Highlights are few and far between but Tahlia Brody, on her return from suspension, makes eighty metres upfield, bumping off several tacklers in her wake, whilst her USA teammate Emily Henrich also makes a strong break with an astute interception.

Half time score: Saracens 48 – 0 Leicester Tigers

After the break, there’s more of the same, in a dominant display.

Scores from Canadian Olympic Silver Medalist Fancy Bermudez, Red Roses Rosie Galligan and May Campbell, two for Isla Alejandro, seconds for Emma Hardy and a second and third for centre partner Sophie Bridger.

A tough afternoon in London.

Full time score: Saracens 100 - 0 Leicester Tigers

Team News | Hudson makes 10 changes for trip to Saracens

Figure image

The matchday squad for Saturday's Premiership Women's Rugby trip to Saracens Women has been named.

This fixture comes in the middle of six straight weekends of matches, with successive away trips followed up by home clashes against Loughborough Lightning (January 25) and Gloucester-Hartpury (February 1).

In anticipation of the congested schedule, head coach Tom Hudson has made ten changes to the starting XV that beat Sale Sharks last week to record a maiden Premiership home win.

It's an all-new front row, with Abbey Constable, Nikki Simpson and Nadine Vincent in off the bench, while captain Roisin McBrien moves forward from No. 8 into the engine room.

The back row is also all changed, with Tiana Gordon and Morgan Richardson named on either side of Tahlia Brody, who returns from suspension.

With this start, Richardson will become the first woman to reach 50 Leicester Tigers appearances, the backrow joined in the exclusive half-century by Amy Relf, should she appear from amongst the replacements.

In the backs, Jenny Maxwell starts at scrum half with a rejigged midfield as Katie Childs shifts back to a more familiar centre berth from the back row, whilst Emily Henrich moves inward from the wing for the first time since the pre-season PWR Up series.

Finally, there is an all-new back three of Amelia Tutt, who returns from injury, alongside Tess Feury and Amanda Swartz

Amongst the replacements new signing Clodagh Dunne is in line for her Leicester Tigers debut whilst Alana Bainbridge, Ellie Smith, Sarah Nicholas and Elin Beaver are back in the matchday squad.

Speaking ahead of the game, Hudson said: "Ultimately, this is a side with a lot of experience and a real opportunity against a highly competitive team."

"We'll see a few players, who have been fighting tooth and nail in training, given a valuable opportunity to stake a claim for a shirt. Equally, someone like Emily Henrich, who plays outside centre for the USA but out wide for us, has an opportunity to demonstrate her skillset in a different position.

"Each week we see the competition for places in this squad get higher and higher and everyone in this squad has earned the right to be there."
