George Martin has progressed through the club’s development pathways and academy to become one of the Gallagher Premiership’s most feared enforcers, and an established England international.
As a member of the Leicester Tigers Under-18 squad that went through the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons with an unbeaten record, second-rower Martin enjoyed a memorable start to his club career.
Born in Nottingham and with a family home in Loughborough, George was a student at Loughborough Grammar and then Melton Brooksby College as he made his way through the Tigers academy.
He was called up to the England Under-18 squad in 2017/18 and then captained the squad in 2018/19 before making his senior club debut in a cup game at Worcester which kicked off the 2019/20 season.
After the resumption of the Covid-hit campaign, he made a big impression during two games in Premiership company before a knee injury ended his season.
Martin broke through in earnest in the 2021/22 season. Initially named in the England U20 squad in January of that year, Martin was called into Eddie Jones’ “shawdow squad” for the Six Nations, and on 20 March, he made his senior England debut against Ireland, having only played seven senior games for Tigers.
The end of that campaign saw Martin making strides in his young career, and he was on the field when Freddie Burns drop-goal sealed Tigers return to the top of the Gallagher Premiership.
The lock represented England at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and re-signed with Tigers during the 2023/24 season.
