When Leicester Tigers announced the signing of Matias Moroni ahead of the 2020/21 season, the Argentina international said joining the club felt like “being part of Boca Juniors”, one of his country’s most famous football names.

An outside-back who plays predominantly at centre, Matias was born in Buenos Aires and played junior rugby at Club Universitario de Buenos Aires (CUBA) before being selected in the Argentina Under-20s squad for the Junior Rugby World Cup in 2011.

In 2012, he joined the World Rugby Sevens circuit as part of the Pumas squad and played in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

He made his Test debut in 2014 against Scotland and played in two successive Rugby World Cup campaigns in 2015 and 2019.

Matias was a member of the inaugural Jaguares squad in Super Rugby and played there for five seasons, featuring in the 2019 Super Rugby Final against the Crusaders alongside his future Tigers team-mate Tomás Lavanini.
