Cheika: There's no excuses

Michael Cheika spoke following the 80-12 defeat to Toulouse in Round 4 of the Investec Champions Cup.

The Leicester Tigers Head Coach did not mince his words when quizzed on the result, saying: "We were given a great opportunity to come down here against the European champs and get stuck into it and we didn't."

"From my end, I've got a lot of self-reflection about that because how I prepare the team is how they play, and it's really hurt me. I've got to be better as a coach to make sure we're in a better position in this game."

Speaking further on facing Toulouse, who are chasing not only back-to-back European crowns but a third title in the past five seasons, Cheika said: "It's about the follow-through of disciplines that you do in your preparation, not just in the week, over a period of time, and then delivering those on game day.

"Sometimes you can get away with it, because the other teams don't deliver, but against a team that does deliver what they say they're going to deliver and what they prepare, you don't get away with it there. That's what happened today. There's no excuses."

Leicester Tigers now return to the Gallagher Premiership with a trip to Gloucester on Saturday, January 25, which doubles as a clash for the Slater Cup.
