Hambo’s team of International Legends, captained by Jason Robinson, took on Deacon’s Tigers Legends, which were captained by Martin Johnson.
A crowd of 16,500, the highest attendance for a rugby match in the UK over the weekend, were at Welford Road to watch the International Legends run out 41-19 winners.
The game was in support of the Matt Hampson Foundation and the Louis Deacon Benefit Year, which is supporting the Foundation and the Scotty's Little Soldiers charity.
Hambo said: “It was a really special day for me and Deacs, to have so many legends turn up to play was very humbling.
“And the fans, well what can I say? We hoped to hit 10,000 so to see 16,500 was incredible and I thank everyone who turned up to create such an awesome atmosphere.
“The game was good to watch and we all enjoyed a few beers in the bar after. As always the Tigers fans proved why they are the best rugby fans around.”
Deacs added: “We were blown away by it. To have that many people there and the biggest crowd of the weekend to support us was awesome – Tigers fans are the best in the world.
“The players were awesome – the game was a bit more physical than I expected. Brett (Deacon) came off and said it was a physical game.
“It was a good reunion for everyone and they really enjoyed it.”
