Jones to join up with Team GB ahead of Paris Olympics

Leicester Tigers centre Meg Jones is set to join up with Team GB 7s ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Jones is the co-captain of Team GB 7s and last featured for the side in June of 2023 as Team GB won gold at the European Games, a result that helped them qualify for the 2024 Olynpics.

The centre has prior Olympic experience, having co-captained the side at the 2021 games in Tokyo. Great Britain finished fourth, with Jones scoring twice in the Bronze Medal matchup.

Jones becomes the latest Tiger to play rugby at the Olympics, after brothers John and Dick Jackett, who were current playing members at Leicester at the time, did so at White City in 1908.

In addition to the Jackett’s, three former Tigers (Jimmy Jose, Maffer Davey and Herbert Nicol) also won silver medals when they played in the Great Britain (Cornwall) team that were defeated 32-3 by Australia in the Olympic final at White City, London, on 26 October 1908.
