Lord Mayor celebrates sporting success

Leicester Tigers this week joined the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Gary Hunt, and a number of other local sports heroes at the Town Hall to commemorate a year of international sporting achievements in 2007.

Guests included Tigers head coach Marcelo  Loffreda, players Aaron Mauger, Seru Rabeni, Harry Ellis and Marcos Ayerza, players from Leicester Hockey Club, Leicestershire County Cricket Club captain Paul Nixon and Special Olympics athletes.

The Lord Mayor paid tribute to all those who played sport on an international stage and the positive impact this has on raising the profile of the city of Leicester and inspiring young people to participate in sport.

He also added how is looking forward to the city staging the eighth National Special Olympics GB Summer Games in 2009 which will take place across the city and Rutland during the last week in July next year.
