The Professional Rugby Players’ Association has announced it is to refocus and expand to become the Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) and will increase the number of players who can benefit from an excellent range of services.
As well as more than 500 players from the Guinness Premiership, the RPA will now be opening its membership to rugby players from different tiers of the game. This includes players from the Championship, elite players from women’s rugby and retired players, who will form the RPA Alumni.
Matt has been chosen to fill the ambassador’s role due to his profile within the rugby world and his understanding of the issues associated with the fund having been a previous beneficiary of the charity.
He was at the launch on Monday and said: “I’m honoured to be the first ambassador for the RPA benevolent fund, the charity has helped me in the past and continues to do so.
“I think it’s great that the RPA is branching out into representing players from the women’s game and the Championship, as well as former players.
“I intend to put my all into the role and look forward to working closely with Damien Hopley and his team.’’
