On his retirement from coaching, Matthews wrote: "It's been an incredible journey, one that I've cherished deeply.

"Over the past decade in this role, and many years before that as a player and assistant coach, I've had the privilege of witnessing countless moments of growth and achievement.

"I've been fortunate enough to be present at the very beginning of many players' careers, watching them develop their skills and progress through the ranks. It's been incredibly rewarding to see some of them go on to represent their country, and I hope I've played a small part in their success.

"As I step down from this position, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey. To the players, the staff, the supporters – your passion, dedication, and unwavering support have made this experience truly unforgettable.

"I wish you all the best for the future in this amazing sport."

Club Chairman Rob Tarr added: "On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for your hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to making us one of the most successful clubs in the U.K.

"Your influence has shaped not only the club’s success but also the lives of countless players who have had the privilege of learning under your guidance.

"Thank you, Darren, for everything you’ve done for us. We will always be grateful for your leadership and the incredible legacy you leave behind."
