Welford Road hosted this year’s Miss England Midlands semi-finals as 17-year-old Millie Richardson, from Broughton Astley, was named as Miss Leicestershire 2019.
Thirteen contestants took to the stage to #wearitgreen to raise awareness on the importance of recycling.
Contestants wore an array of outfits made from bin bags, bottle tops, fabric and plastic waste, and their parents' old clothing in the colorful show which was streamed live on YouTube.
The evening also raised more than £12,000 for two charities from the funds raised by the contestants and a raffle on the night - the Children's Cancer & Leukaemia Group based at Leicester Royal Hospital and Hope Against Cancer.
Five other Leicestershire women will Millie at the Miss England 2019 finals this summer; Tia and Sapphire Carter, from Leicester, Rosin Richardson from Loughborough, Niamh Kirk from Leicester, and Jess Tastar from Hinckley.
Former Miss Leicestershire Megan Elliot, who joined club mascot Welford to kick-off the event back in May, hosted the evening alongside Jordan Williams.
Speaking after the event, Millie said: “I’m literally over the moon and proud to have all my family here with me too. It means so much for me to be able to use this title in such a positive way, I can’t wait for what it brings.”
