Reaction | Francesca McGhie

Following the win over Trailfinders Women, Francesca McGhie felt nothing short of 'buzzing'.

The flying wing had scored a sensational hat-trick on way to a seven-try victory for Leicester Tigers.

“I’m kind of speechless - that was a performance we’re really proud of.

“It’s definitely our best performance of the season so far. We really showed up today, we played to our game plan.

“We trained really well during the week – really physical, really detailed and we were clear in how we wanted to approach the game.”

Interestingly, it was the Scot's first score for the club since November 9, against Bristol Bears. Fittingly akin to London buses, you wait three months for another try and three come along at once.

“It has been quite a while since I scored so happy to get over the line.

“I’m proud to be doing it with my team.

"We'll talk about the attack but for the vast majority of that game we were so strong defensively, so we're proud of our performance on both sides of the ball."

McGhie's hat-trick made up not even half of the seven scintillating tries scored by Leicester Tigers, with Meg Jones, a penalty try and a brace from Tahlia Brody completing the job.

With just one final match left in the 2024/25 season, Tigers will be looking to carry that sensational attacking form into the Friday Night Lights against Exeter Chiefs (Friday, February 21).

"You never know what's going to happen in a game of 80 minutes but we'll look to carry on exactly as we were today, take the game to Exeter and play some exciting rugby.

"I can't wait. The fans at Mattioli Woods Welford Road are always so good and we're hoping for a big crowd and a performance to match to close out the season!"
