Steve Borthwick highlighted the ‘resilience’ of his players to come from behind and record a 20-24 victory over Bath Rugby at The Rec in Round 17 of the 21/22 Gallagher Premiership season.
Speaking after the game, the Leicester Tigers Head Coach said: “I am very proud of the players today, they worked hard for this victory.”
“There was a real resilience and toughness about them this afternoon, with a Bath side throwing everything at them.”
Leicester led by nine points, 5-14, after only 13 minutes at the The Rec before the home side hit back with successive tries to take a six-point lead into the half-time break.
When asked about the high-scoring first half, the Tigers boss admitted the home side forced a ‘tough spell’ upon his side.
“We started the game really well,” said Borthwick.
“Then, full credit to Bath today, they ensured we had a really tough spell approaching half-time and just after the break.
“They are a good team, led on the field by some very good half-backs and with some real magic in that backline.
“But, what was pleasing, we showed some great composure to get ourselves back in to the game.
“Bath put us under enormous pressure this afternoon, but the players deserve a lot of credit for delivering an 80-minute performance.”
Tigers may have arrived to The Rec at the opposite end of the league ladder than their opponents, Borthwick reiterated the focus of he and his players remains on just one thing.
“We have a very clear goal; deliver a performance our supporters are proud of,” replied Borthwick.
“The focus is always on our next game and the performance, it doesn’t matter who we are coming up against.
“The players deserve to enjoy this win, enjoy the reward for their efforts and then switch that focus immediately to next Saturday’s game against a Gloucester team who have been performing very well in recent weeks and come to Mattioli Woods Welford Road fresh on the back of a bye round.
“It is going to be a big challenge, up against one of the real form teams of the league and we will need to be prepared for that challenge.”
