Leicester Tigers have agreed a new deal with lock Calum Green.

The 31-year-old has made 76 senior appearances for the club, during two spells at Tigers, since debuting in 2008 after graduating from the Tigers Academy

"On and off the field, the club is moving in the right direction and I want to be a part of it"

Green captained the Tigers Academy during his final season in the junior ranks and made his senior debut as a teenager against the Classic All Blacks, as well as featuring in the club’s historic win over world champions South Africa in 2009.

The second-rower spent time on loan at Nottingham Rugby, as well as a short stint with Yorkshire Carnegie, before joining Newcastle Falcons in 2014.

Discussing his decision to extend his time at the club, Green said: “I have enjoyed the last two years, being back at Tigers, and am excited about where we are going.

“On and off the field, the club is moving in the right direction and I want to be a part of it.”

Green also chatted about working with Steve Borthwick, being a part of this new-look Leicester playing group and the role of Tigers fans.

“Steve has brought real positive change,” said Green.

“His attention to detail, as a second rower especially, is really beneficial and we have all learnt a lot about the game – even us older guys – from him in the past two years.

“This is a squad where everyone is involved, whether you are the youngest or oldest, and everyone is contributing.

“The fans are playing their part too, which is something that doesn’t compare anywhere else to what we have here at Tigers.

“Looking back a year or so and running out to empty stadiums was not good, so to be able to have them back with us and pushing us through until the final whistle is a huge boost.”

Speaking about Green, Leicester Tigers Head Coach Steve Borthwick said: “Calum loves Leicester Tigers, which is clear to see.

“He is an academy graduate who did go away, gained experienced elsewhere, but then came home to Tigers.

“The seniority and respect he has around this group is enormous and anybody, who watches Tigers when Calum Green plays, can see how much he cares for this team and this club.

“Players love playing with Calum and I believe fans love watching Calum play for their club.”
