Leicester Tigers’ application for planning consent for the redevelopment of the club’s Welford Road stadium is now under consideration by Leicester City Council.

The public can play a part by writing in support of the application. Forward your comments by post to Leicester City Council, Planning Management and Delivery, Regeneration and Culture Department, New Walk Centre, Welford Place, Leicester LE1 6ZG, or by email to [email protected]

“Welford Road is an old stadium which has served the club well over more than 100 years and supporters will have treasured memories of big games, fantastic wins and world-class players here,” said Tigers managing director David Clayton.

“But we have outgrown the stadium in terms of facilities for supporters and facilities for use on non-matchdays which are crucial to the financial well-being of any sporting organisation.

“Demand constantly exceeds supply in terms of the stadium capacity and we have addressed that in plans to take capacity up to 30,000, starting with the completion of new accommodation on the Next Stand side of the ground.

“No one wants to turn away potential support and that is what we have had to do so many times as the ‘sold-out’ signs have gone up around the ground.

“We want to make Welford Road the finest dedicated club rugby stadium in Europe, a ground of which we can all be proud.

“The redevelopment proposals are exciting and interesting, as befitting a club with serious ambitions to be consistently among the very best.”

Could you please take five minutes to complete this questionnaire, print it out and hand to a steward or member of staff at this Saturday's Guinness Premiership match against Newcastle? Alternatively, please hand in to the ticket office or club shop before the deadline of Tuesday, January 29.
