Syston were crowned Leicestershire County Cup winners at Welford Road on Monday - and had a share in the Colts Cup.
A thrilling Colts Cup Final ended in a 15-15 draw between Syston and Lutterworth, with the title shared for 2009/10, and Syston followed up with a 30-15 win over South Leicester in the senior competition in front of a large and appreciative crowd at the home of Leicester Tigers.
The colts’ final went right to the wire, with Syston levelling the scores with Torr’s penalty just three minutes from full-time.
Lutterworth had been ahead thanks to tries from wing Grunwald and lock Johnson, combined with a Lloyd conversion.
But Syston, who got off the mark with two Tressler penalties to lead 6-5 at half-time, added three Torr penalties in the closing 20 minutes to gain a share of the silverware.
In the senior competition, three first-half tries put Syston in the driving seat as centre Simon Francis, Paul Walsh and Ian Smith touched down. Warren Coles added two conversions.
The lead reached 24-3 when Francis grabbed his second score of the evening, but South threatened a fightback when skipper Stu Bale scored twice in the second half. Combined with two penalties from Mark Lord, South closed the gap to nine points before Francis kicked a penalty and Smith added a late drop goal to close the game out for Syston.
