Rugby development officers from Leicester Tigers have visited the school during the last five weeks, leading games involving tagging skills and attacking space, and allowing the children to develop their skills.
Oaklands have now been presented with a set of Alliance & Leicester Tag Rugby equipment, including balls, tag belts and kit bag, to enable the children to continue their participation in this increasingly popular version of the game.
The Alliance & Leicester Special Schools Programme has seen the Leicester Tigers community team visit four schools in the last year, Oaklands following Ellesmere College, Keyham Lodge and Maplewell School in experiencing the introduction to Tag Rugby.
The coaches have been extremeley well received by all the children and teachers involved, said Tigers community manager Scott Clarke.
And they have felt the positive development of the children.
Weve had positive experiences at each school and great support from Alliance & Leicester. We look forward to visiting more schools during 2008/09.
