Try park and ride on Tigers matchday

Leicester Tigers fans are encouraged to use the new park and ride service from Enderby on matchdays.

The park and ride terminates in the city centre but has a stop outside Leicester Royal Infirmary, close to Welford Road stadium, and the service runs every 10 minutes until 7pm, Monday to Saturday.

A day ticket is £3 and a group ticket for up to five passengers travelling together is just £3.50.

Charles Rayner, Tigers’ head of stadium operations, said: “It’s fantastic news that Tigers supporters will be able to make use of the new park and ride.

“The opening of the new Caterpillar Stand this season means that attendances are exceeding 20,000 and the new service will make it easier than ever for supporters to get to and from the ground while removing the need to find city-centre parking.”

Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: “We hope that with space for 1,000 cars, the new park and ride from Enderby can help to ease some of the matchday congestion and take away some of the hassle of finding a parking space close to the Tigers’ stadium.”

Patrick Kitterick, Leicester City Council cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: “The roads around Leicester do not get much busier than they do on matchdays. Supporters travelling in on the park and ride can avoid most of this congestion as the service makes use of bus lanes for the majority of the journey.”

The new park and ride service is a joint project between the City and County Councils and construction partners Tarmac.
