Report | Late score secures bonus-point win

Figure image

A last-minute try to Jasper Wiese helped Leicester Tigers to secure a bonus-point win over Gloucester Rugby in Round 20 of the 2022/23 Gallagher Premiership season on Sunday afternoon.

While the game finished with 31 points on the Kingsholm scoreboard, 5-26, supporters were left stunned at the half-time break when the sides returned to the changing rooms level at 0-0.

The scoreless opening half was just the second in the professional era for Leicester and first time it has occurred in almost a decade for Tigers since Montpellier away in 2013.

Mike Brown, Julián Montoya, Ben Youngs and Wiese were the try-scorers for Leicester, while Handré Pollard added six points from the kicking tee with three from four attempts.

TIGERS DENIED

After back-to-back cynical infringements from Gloucester, Tigers look to have powered over from close range through Hanro Liebenberg.

However, upon review by the TMO, it's ruled to have been a double-movement and Gloucester win the penalty on their own line.

47

IMMEDIATE IMPACT

George Martin, seconds after coming on to the field, bursts through the Gloucester defence on halfway and carries to deep inside the home side's half with a rampaging run.

Team News | Leicester side to play Gloucester

Figure image

Richard Wigglesworth has named the Leicester Tigers matchday squad to play Gloucester in Round 20 of the 2022/23 Gallagher Premiership.

Julián Montoya will captain the team at Kingsholm on Sunday afternoon.

Wigglesworth has made four changes to his starting side from last weekend’s win over Bath Rugby at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, including a first start for Guy Porter in six weeks.

Porter replaces Jimmy Gopperth at inside centre in the only change to the backline from Round 19.

In the starting pack, it’s a new-look lock pairing with Harry Wells and Eli Snyman named in the second-row in place of George Martin and Cameron Henderson and, in the back row, Olly Cracknell comes in for Tommy Reffell.

Martin and Henderson are included among the replacements and Reffell is away on international duty with Wales.

Meanwhile, James Cronin and Emeka Ilione are in line for returns to league action after being named on the bench.
