John Bartlett: 250th Tigers Together Member

John Bartlett has lived all over the UK.

At 62, Portsmouth is where he’s settled, at least for now.

John went to University in Leicester, in the 80s, and his dad - Graham - is a Leicester, and Tigers, through and through.

While at Uni, John frequented Tigers matches but life got in the way; he moved around a fair and getting to Mattioli Woods Welford Road wasn’t possible.

But, while he couldn't be there on game day, like his father before him, he remained a Tigers fan.

From afar, he supported and - suddenly - 38 years went by before John returned to Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

In 2018, John’s father, Graham, passed away.

Just a few years later, after being locked out during the pandemic, John was one of those Tigers tragics who couldn't stay away.

After being denied the chance to be a part of the crowd on matchday, he realised he had to return more often.

He started to make the trip up to Leicester from Portsmouth for the occasional game.

Three hours in the car is some commitment to his team.

These days, he attends matches with his daughter Chloe and two-year-old grand-daughter Willow.

Distance plays a part in not being able to commit to a Season Ticket but, over the summer, John realised he had another way to - from afar - show his support through the Tigers Together membership.

When he signed up, unbeknown to John, he became the 250th Tigers Together member, when he signed up for a Platinum Membership.

After finding out he was the milestone man why Tigers Together was for him.

“Anything we can do as a family to help future-proof our beloved Leicester Tigers as a club appeals to us," he said.

“The Platinum benefits also suit us well, as a distant supporter who like a bit of hospitality when we come to games. Chloe and I especially like the idea of being able to directly strengthen both the men’s and women’s teams on the pitch.

“I’m deeply aware of the tough times that rugby has been going, especially post-Covid. When I became aware of the Tigers Together scheme I thought that is the perfect way that my family could help do our bit from afar.”
