Leicester Tigers have re-signed South African back rower Jasper Wiese.
The 25-year-old joined Tigers ahead of the 2020/21 season and has made eight appearances, scoring three tries, since his debut in Round 1 of the current campaign.
Wiese joined Tigers from South African side The Cheetahs, where he spent four seasons before making the move to the East Midlands.
A hard-working, physical loose forward, Wiese polled in the Top 10 for carries, metres made and defenders beaten in the Gallagher Premiership at the halfway point of the 2020/21 season.
Speaking about the re-signing of Wiese, Leicester Tigers head coach Steve Borthwick said: “Jasper’s impact on the field has been immediate since he arrived in the build-up to this season and, equally so, has been a huge contributor to our environment off the pitch.”
“He is incredibly committed to his team mates, the club and what we are building at Leicester Tigers.
“Jasper is a fine young man, who we are very pleased to have agreed a new deal with and look forward to what he will continue to bring to Tigers in the future.”
Discussing his decision to re-sign, Wiese said: "I am very pleased to re-sign here at Tigers. I have enjoyed every minute of my time at the club and in Leicester since arriving and excited for the future with this group of players, coaches and staff."
"Working with Steve and the coaching team has been great for me and I am looking forward to continuing to work with them and growing as a player
"The only thing missing for me is that I have not been able to experience a home crowd yet and that is something I know will be special when we have fans back at Mattioli Woods Welford Road."
The announcement of Wiese’s re-signing follows confirmation of re-commitments from youngsters James Whitcombe, Dan Kelly and Ollie Chessum as well as international Nemani Nadolo.
