The Barbarians will return to Welford Road for a special fixture against Leicester Tigers in November as part of their 125th anniversary season.
Matches between the Tigers and the Barbarians were traditionally the highlight of the year for many supporters, with the biggest names in world rugby coming to Welford Road for a Christmas holiday fixture.
The development of the professional rugby calendar and increased international commitments saw the Christmas fixture come to an end during the 1990s, but the Barbarians continued to visit Welford Road in mid-season, with their most recent match here in 2006.
Now the Barbarians are to return to face Tigers in an historic fixture on Tuesday, November 4 (kick-off 7.30pm).
Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom CBE, announcing the fixture, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome the Barbarians back to Welford Road for a fixture against Leicester Tigers.
“There are generations of supporters who recall the Christmas Barbarians games here and the capacity crowds who came to see some of the world’s biggest rugby stars against the Tigers.
“The Barbarians have played a large part in the history of the Leicester Tigers, and we are honoured and proud that, in return, we can play a part in their 125th anniversary season. It should be a great occasion for the players and the supporters.”
The November 4 event will also feature a fireworks display on the pitch after the match.
Tickets go on sale to all supporters at the Tigers ticket office from next Tuesday (June 17).
Supporters can book in person at Welford Road, by phoning the office on 0844 856 1880 (option 2) or online.
