Brooksby Melton College have retained the U18 County Cup beating Welbeck DSFC 12-10, to cap off a season which saw the team secure their highest-ever Academic and Sporting Excellence (AASE) League finish.
The Leicestershire Rugby Union Under-18 County Cup sees the regions best under-18 teams compete, as Brooksby picked up the trophy for the second year running.
The Leicestershire college are Tigers’ partners for the AASE League, which hosts 14 sides from across the UK who are each paired with a professional side.
The Cup Final was hosted at Leicester Forest RFC and the season continues for the squad, who will be competing in the Rosslyn Park 7s later this month.
The core of BMC’s team is made up of 12 Tigers Academy prospects, with the partnership between club and college continuing to grow from strength to strength.
Just five players were enrolled to the programme in 2014, compared to 60 AASE players and a further 13 community development players involved this season.
Young rugby players looking to study at Brooksby and get involved in the programme are invited to an Open Day at the college on Saturday, March 7.
The event will run from 10.00am until 1.00pm and will involve an introduction from representatives at the college and Leicester Tigers, before a practical rugby session and campus tour.
Students looking to study a variety of subjects at further education can combine their studies with representing the college on the rugby field, with courses including a minimum of six hour contact time of training with Leicester Tigers coaches.
