Tigers and England hooker George Chuter will take to the stage to perform his first comedy routine at the Leicestershire Stand-Up Challenge later this month.
The challenge is an open mic for amateur comedians organised by Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival. It will be held at the Y Theatre, Leicester on Tuesday, November 26.
Chuter, who holds the record for the most Premiership appearances, said: “The Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival got in touch with the club, who said ‘Chutes is a bit of a joke – get him up there’!
“I like watching comedy, I am not aspiring to be a stand-up comedian but having had the opportunity it’s something I’d like to try and I’m really looking forward to it.”
In the meantime, Chuter is set to provide the warm-up for the Try Tuesdays Try Comedy night, in conjunction with Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival, at Welford Road on Tuesday, November 19.
The evening will feature Joey Page, who recently appeared on BBC’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks, as well as Andrew Ryan and Leicester-born Matt Hollins. It will be compered by Adnan Ahmed.
Chuter said: “I have the security blanket there that if my routine falls flat on its face I can just aim a few jokes at Julian Salvi or something! Everyone will know what I’m talking about!”
The Try Tuesday Comedy Night will be held in the new Try Line Club in the Goldsmiths Stand at Welford Road. Tickets are priced £8, doors and the bar open at 6.30pm and there is a free pint for people arriving before 7.15pm.
Tickets are available now from the Welford Road ticket office, on 0844 856 1880 (option 2) or online by clicking here
