Stand Out Socks to launch alongside Tigers Down syndrome rugby

To celebrate the launch of our new Down syndrome rugby team and, with October being Down syndrome awareness month, Leicester Tigers are delighted to collaborate with Stand Out Socks, who will be launching their Tigers themed socks in the club shop on Saturday, October 21!

Stand Out Socks, co-founded by two brothers, Christian and Ross aims to foster the inclusion of individuals with learning disabilities in the workplace. Stand Out Socks pride themselves on their vibrancy, their bright colours and fun patterns help to get the conversation started and create awareness of Down syndrome in everyday life.

21 holds great significance in the community, as it's the triplication of chromosome 21 that causes Down syndrome. This is reflected in the socks pattern of green and red zig zags, with the 21st row being coloured white to represent the 21st chromosome.

The release of the socks in the Tigers Club Shop on the October 21 coincides with the launch of the first ever Leicester Tigers Down syndrome rugby team, with 100% of the proceeds from these socks going towards the team.

There will be a special introductory session this Saturday, October 21 at the club's Oaks Park training ground (opposite Oval Park) and from then there will be sessions will running every other Sunday from October 22 until the end of the regular season. You can find out more details and sign up below.

On Saturday, October 21, there will be a fun session held at Leicester Tigers' Oaks Park training ground (opposite to the club's Oval Park ground) to connect the Down syndrome community together in Leicestershire and show that rugby is for everyone! The sessions will be held from 11.30am, with arrivals at 11am.

This introductory session will then be followed by tea, coffee and snacks before we will head to Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

At half-time in Leicester Tigers' opening Gallagher Premiership home fixture against Sale Sharks, the players from both teams will be allowed onto the pitch to either play a fun game of tag or to walk around the pitch and soak up the atmosphere.

Following this, from Sunday, October 22 onwards, there will be sessions every other weekend until the end of the season. These sessions will be held at the club’s Oval Park training ground and sessions will run from 11.30am – 12.30pm.
