If you were to say the name Francesca McGhie to rugby fans in the know, most people would respond with 'God, what a try!'.
The then 19 year old announced herself on the world rugby stage with a sublime finish against Ireland in the 2023 TikTok Six Nations, a spectacular score that made the most of the back's ballet skills.
"I always played sport when I was younger, from Hockey to Tennis but my main sport was dance! I did contemporary and ballet at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, travelling three times a week to Glasgow".
A Scottish winger scoring one of the tries of the tournament was history repeating itself but what separates 'Duhan Fran der Merwe' from her international compatriot was that she was stepping up in just her fifth international appearance, having debuted in the opening round of the tournament and starting every subsequent match.
However, there's far more to Fran than just those scorching few seconds in the Six Nations.
In this interview, we explore what lead McGhie to rugby, her career up to this point and how she's settling in in the East-Midlands.
