Adam Thompstone says it was “a good day” as he returned from injury to help Leicester Tigers kick-off their Anglo-Welsh Cup defence with a 26-24 victory over Gloucester Rugby.
Thompstone, who has missed the start of the season with a neck issue, scored a match-winning try on his first start of the campaign as Tigers won a tight battle with Gloucester Rugby.
With Tigers trailing 24-21 and only 10 minutes left, Thompstone was on hand to finish off a smart move, collecting Afa Pakalani’s pass to go over on the left for the decisive score.
And he said the celebration afterwards was a joke between himself and a friend.
“It’s just good to be back playing and good to get a win,” said Thompstone. “It was a good day.
“We know there’s plenty more there, we need to be better next weekend but it was a win and that’s what matters.
“I didn’t have to do much at all with the try. Afa was great at the end of a good set move and he put me in down in the corner.
“The celebration is just a joke between a friend and myself,” he added.
