Leicester Tigers kicked off this summer's Rugby Course programme with more than 70 young players developing their skills over five full days at Ratcliffe College, Leicester.
Under the watchful eye of a team of Tigers community coaches and former Tigers hooker Troy Thacker, the players work on all the skills required to improve their game.
“The aim is to give young players an insight into the challenges professional rugby offers as well as a chance to improve their game and their enjoyment of rugby,” said Tigers community manager Scott Clarke.
As well as focusing on rugby skills including handling, agility and contact, Tigers Rugby Courses also engage the services of British Judo Association who work with the Tigers Academy players as an integral part of their game preparation.
“We believe judo compliments rugby because it brings elements of technique, power and aggression in a controlled and focused environment,” added Clarke. “The ethos of respect for your opponent and the referee is also a key elements in both sports that we support fully.”
