Partner club Colorno promoted to Italian Top 12

Leicester Tigers’ global partner club Rugby Colorno have won promotion to the top flight of Italian rugby union.

The team beat Capitolina Rugby Union 25-12 in the Italian Girone 2 Series A play-off in front of a home crowd.

Colorno became an official global partner of Leicester Tigers back in December 2018 and field 10 teams from under-six age group up to the senior Men’s and Women’s teams.

The promotion follows the success of Tigers other global partner clubs RC DIOK winning the Netherlands league and Dendermonde picking up the domestic Belgian cup

Colorno wing Gustavo Sito Alvarado scored a brace of tries in the first half with Frederico Magri adding the extras with the boot, before centre Faialaga Afamasaga went over to take his side's lead to 22 points to nil.

Capitolina added two tries in the middle of the second half but Colorno’s Magri extended the lead from the tee as the team ran out 25-12 winners.

A statement from the club read: “It is the victory of a great family and of those people that have never stopped believing and has worked with the heart to reach this goal.

“It is the result of a great job and an innovative way of thinking, which also led to us joining forces with Leicester Tigers.

“From them and from Colorno’s director of rugby Nick Scott, the club has learned that those values like 'family' and 'respect' are the most important thing in sport ... from here the victories are born.”
