Post-Match Chat | Amy Relf

In a match that was utterly flooded with tries, the biggest roar from the away bench came when half-back Amy Relf darted through the Harrogate Ladies defence to touch down for her first-ever Leicester Tigers try in the 111-point away win on Saturday afternoon.

Some members of the Tigers bench could hardly believe it; ‘No way, she’s had like a million tries this season, surely?’ said one player, which speaks to the impact the 24-year-old has made at the club.

‘Relfy’ has starred at both scrum-half and fly-half this season, a key fulcrum at 10 for the expansive style utilised in the home game against Novocastrians at Mattioli Woods Welford Road and then tasked with supercharging the attack from 9 with quick, clean ball and expert sniping in the away mauling of Harrogate.

We spoke to her after Saturday’s match, to see just what that score meant to her:

Firstly, congratulations on your first try for the club! How great does that feel?

"I am super excited, been waiting for it all season!"

"There’s been a few times I’ve been running after our wingers, trying to catch up and maybe get an offload, but that’s felt like an impossible task thus far so it feels brilliant to finally get one of my own."

You set up a couple as well from scrum-half, where do you feel your best position is in the team, as a number 9 or a number 10?

"Hmm, that is a difficult one. I like trying to mix it up and have a go at both at the moment. I’ve always played 9 so a little bit more comfortable there. 10 stretches my skillset a bit more so it’s not quite as natural but I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity thus far."

Finally, can the supporters expect many more tries from you now that you’ve broken your duck?

"I certainly hope so, we’ll just have to see!"
