After an emotional first matchday at Mattioli Woods Welford Road last weekend, the Leicester Tigers women’s squad are back on league duty at Worcester RFC on Sunday.

Vicky Macqueen, head of the women’s programme, praised the composure of the team in a 36-0 victory over Championship North 1 defending champions Cheltenham Tigers Ladies on home ground last Saturday before quickly switching attention to the challenge presented by Worcester.

“It was an amazing occasion last week because it was an historic event and a big deal for the girls,” said Macqueen.

“But once the whistle went you could see they just got on with the game. That composure was really apparent in the team and I thought Tash Jones as captain did a great job on that.

“The support at Mattioli Woods Welford Road was fantastic, the girls really bought into it and it was a great day all round. But we wanted to play at our best and that was the most important thing. It’s a game of rugby at the end of the day.

“The intensity and workrate were great and I think we took another step up from the first game.

“Even after a good win, the girls want to get better, they want feedback on the performance and that’s great. Every game is a new game, we’ve moved on to Round 3 now, we’ve had two good training sessions this week and we just want to get better and better.”

In team news announced on Thursday, Tanya Bird returns to the Tigers back row, with Bryany Chalk and Lucrezia Iavarone added to the matchday 22 in the only changes to the line-up against Cheltenham.

Tigers will wear a version of the new change blue kit in action at Worcester on Sunday.

Worcester - a different team to the Premier 15s outfit run by the Warriors - scored eight tries in their 50-36 victory at Harrogate last week after losing to Cheltenham in Round 1.

Their home is at Offerton Road, Hindlip (WR3 8TR) where kick-off is at 3.00pm on Sunday.
