Semi-Final Reaction: Richard Wigglesworth

Richard Wigglesworth said it came down to "tight moments" that decided the Gallagher Premiership semi-final between Leicester Tigers and Sale Sharks.

Speaking after the game, a visibly disappointed Leicester Tigers Interim Head Coach said: "It was a tight game out there, a real close game that - ultimately - Sale came away with the win after getting the better of us in key moments."

"That is pretty common in these semi-finals, the home side gets those fifty-fifty calls.

"But, let me be clear, they are deserved winners today. Full credit to Sale, they earned the victory."

Wigglesworth was forced into a late change just ahead of the fixture, with Handré Pollard ruled out, but ruled out any idea of it being an excuse for the result.

"I think any team in the rugby world would miss someone of Handré Pollard's class and experience," admitted Wigglesworth.

"But it isn't an excuse, it isn't the reason we lost.

"We would have loved him out there this afternoon but that's the game; players get ruled out with injury and you adapt."

Discussing Sale, he added: "When we went through the preview for this game, we saw just how difficult Sale are to play against."

"They are an incredible side, with so many talented players, and that class shone through today. They were the better team out there."

Looking back on his time at the club, which now comes to an end, Wigglesworth said it would be the relationships he has created that will be most treasured.

"I have loved it. I have loved every minute of being a part of Leicester Tigers," he said.

"I take away so many great friends, so many friends for life.

"It has been an absolute privilege to be a part of the club, first as a player, and then to lead Leicester Tigers for the past six months.

"I have made friends and memories here that will last me a lifetime."
