England have named a 40-player training squad for the 2022 TikTok Women’s Six Nations which includes a fixture at the home of the Leicester Tigers.
The game between England and Ireland is at Mattioli Woods Welford Road on Sunday April 24 (midday kick-off). Tickets and hospitality packages are available via Tigers now.
England head coach Simon Middleton includes scrum-half Natasha Hunt who last represented the national team in November 2020, Emily Scarratt after recovering from a broken leg and forwards Bryony Cleall and Vicky Fleetwood who missed the autumn internationals with injury. There are also places for the uncapped May Campbell, Emma Sing and Ella Wyrwas.
As reigning Six Nations champions, the group meet up this week for the first of two camps and open the Six Nations campaign with away games against Scotland (March 26) and Italy (April 3). The first home match is against Wales at Gloucester on Saturday, April 9 before hosting Ireland at Leicester and then travelling to France a week later.
Head coach Middleton said: “This is our last competitive tournament before we go into the World Cup so it’s an opportunity for players to put their best foot forward.
“We’ve got a summer’s preparation to go but ultimately how people perform on the biggest stages is critical to us.
“This year’s Six Nations has got the potential to be a consistently competitive tournament. Scotland will be buoyed by qualifying for the World Cup and have that preparation time behind them already so they’ll be building on that which will put them in a better place.
“It’s really exciting. Hopefully we can build on the momentum of the autumn in terms of the crowds and delivering a game that gets the fans excited. We see that as an integral part of our duty, not just to win but to entertain too.
“We have a tremendous amount of competition in the squad in terms of the established players and especially in terms of the younger players now coming through, which is great.”
