Leicester Tigers have agreed a new deal with centre Matt Scott.

The 31-year-old has made 36 senior appearances for the club since debuting in 2022 after joining Tigers from Edinburgh Rugby.

"I want to be in an environment like this, part of something that is ambitious and where you are improving every day and getting the most out of your ability"

Scott has made 40 appearances for Scotland after making his Test debut at just 21 years of age and previously played for fellow Gallagher Premiership club Gloucester Rugby in between two stints at Edinburgh.

Discussing his decision to extend his time at the club, Scott said: “It was a no-brainer for me, I wasn’t interested in looking at any other clubs or being anywhere else.

“I feel like we are in a good place, I love playing rugby here and believe I am improving as a player week on week.

“My family is settled in Leicestershire too, I genuinely don’t want to be anywhere else.”

The Scotland international also talked of his ‘want’ to continue to work under Steve Borthwick and the Tigers coaching team, as well as for the Leicester supporters.

“I think Steve has created a really good balance of an environment where we enjoy coming in every day,” said Scott.

“It is fun, but it is challenging; he knows where he wants to take us and he is honest about where we are at as a group too.

“I want to be in an environment like this, part of something that is ambitious and where you are improving every day and getting the most out of your ability.

“The fans have definitely played a part in my decision.

“I got a taste of what this club is about when fans were allowed back at the end of last season and all that I had heard and read started to make sense, that buzz was back.

“We are so spoilt with it, it’s a pleasure to play in front of fans every week – home and away – like we have at Leicester Tigers and I feel very fortunate to be a part of a club like this.”

Speaking about Scott, Leicester Tigers Head Coach Steve Borthwick said: “Matt gives nothing less than all of his effort for this team and for his team-mates.

“A brilliant carrier, who runs incredibly hard, and is a versatile, valuable member of our group.

“He is an experienced player, who has continued to move his game forward since joining Tigers and was rewarded with a return to the Scotland squad last season which we were all delighted to see.”
