Montoya leads Pumas to famous win

Julián Montoya led Argentina to a historic seven-point, 18-25 win over the All Blacks in New Zealand in Round 3 of the 2022 Rugby Championship.

The Leicester Tigers hooker starred for the Los Pumas in their first-ever victory over the All Blacks in Christchurch on Saturday.

In 78 minutes up front for Argentina, Montoya made 18 tackles and secured two turnovers.

Argentina sit atop the Rugby Championship table with Australia, each on nine competition points at the halfway point of the competition.

Their fellow table-toppers, the Wallabies, bounced back following a second-round loss to Los Pumas to defeat South Africa 25-17 on Saturday in Adelaide.

Incoming Leicester fly-half Handrè Pollard kicked a penalty-goal for the Springboks in the first-half, their only points, before being replaced on the hour mark.

Despite a late comeback from South Africa, Australia held on to record the victory ahead of next week's clash the 'Boks in Sydney.

Argentina travel to Waikato in Round 4 before back-to-back meetings with the Springboks which will see Montoya and soon-to-be clubmate Pollard meet for the first time since the South African was confirmed to be joining Tigers.
