U15 Junior Academy nominations are now open

Nominations for the Leicester Tigers Junior Academy, for players within the age group of U15, are now open for 2023/24.

Nominations are open now and will run until September 22. All submissions must be made via the form below and nominations are only available to be made by Coaches or Teachers.

Those nominated will be invited to a limited number of sessions between October and November, where they will be assessed.

The club encourages those nominating to consider four key factors when deciding:

  • Physical potential: Have players got outstanding agility, speed, size (height or weight) or strength compared to their peers.
  • Coachable: Are players engaged in training? Do they ask questions and practice without being prompted to do so?
  • Competitive / hardworking: Do players work hard throughout training and games, with and without the ball? Do they keep trying to the end of games even when lost?
  • Outstanding skill: Does a player demonstrate a particular skill set above the level of their peers that has a positive impact in games e.g. passing, kicking, ball carrying, tackling, jackling

The academy coaches are keen to stress that core rugby skills are fundamental in our coaching but not our selection as these are the skills that can be developed over time. Please do also consider players who may be new to the game, but show high potential in one or more of the above areas.

This is just the first opportunity for players to potentially join the programme. It is not the only opportunity. All players and young people in general will develop and mature at different rates and the programme reflects this by having multiple entry points.

Please ensure that you check and challenge your nominations before submission against the four key principles mentioned. If, after having done this, you strongly feel that you have more than four players who should be assessed, please email [email protected] to discuss further.
