A team representing Leicester Tigers reached the Final of the women’s competition at the Leeds Jungle Sevens.
In their first outing since the announcement that Tigers will take a place in the Women’s Championship North in the new season, Tigers and partner club Lichfield both fielded squads in the Sevens tournament and met in the semi-final stage.
Vicky Macqueen, head of women’s rugby at Tigers, said: “It’s great that the girls could finally compete in the knowledge that our pathway and performance squads are on track for the new season and to have a chance to show what they can do.
“It was unfortunate that the teams met in the semi-finals and one team had to go out but both squads put in some excellent performances.
“Work rate was high and we look forward to pre-season which gives us a chance to really move forward as a group.”
Tigers were beaten in the Final by Northern Lights, a team made up of players from Sale and Darlington Mowden Park.
