Leicester Tigers Head of Women's Rugby, Vicky Macqueen cannot wait to be back at Mattioli Woods Welford Road this weekend.
“Nothing better than running out at home!
“We are excited to get back to work, back to our key job of establishing ourselves in the Allianz PWR. Over the festive period and now into the New Year we’ve seen the girls continue to put in the hard graft and everyone’s feeling ready to get back out there and fight for our amazing supporters”.
Tigers women’s team will face Harlequins in the second home Premiership double header in the club's history.
The day will see Leicester v London, with the men's side set to take on Saracens.
“We’re looking forward to a great occasion. We had our first Prem double header earlier this year and although we were disappointed by the result against Lightning, it was a pleasure to see fans stick around and lend us their support, even in the torrential rain!
“We hope even more will stick around this weekend and help us get over the line against ‘Quins. The supporters really are the 16th player on the pitch for us and we love hearing the roar”.
Results have been difficult, with the side still searching for their first win after five games in Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby, having joined the league earlier this season.
“You have to have a certain level of toughness to be an elite athlete and that goes doubly when you’re a rugby player for Tigers.
“Every single member of our squad and coaching staff enjoy the graft, enjoy the hard work, enjoy pushing their limits and doing what we know we have to do to succeed”.
Both the men’s and women’s team will be facing sides who know how to win, with Saracens the reigning Premiership Champions, whilst ‘Quins were victorious in the 2020/21 season Premier 15s (now Allianz PWR) season.
“Harlequins are a veteran side in the league. They won it not long ago and have had consistently high finishes each year.
“We know the challenge we face but we’re all well rested and itching to get back out there and give their all”.
