Author Week is underway at Leicester Tigers with thousands of city primary schoolchildren enjoying the chance to work with some of the country's top children's writers.
Author Week is aimed at encouraging and improving reading among youngsters. It forms a part of a new Leicester City Council-supported initiative called Whatever It Takes, which promotes reading among primary schools.
More than 65 schools signed up to take part in the practical workshops, which are being held this week by 10 children's authors at Welford Road, home of the Tigers.
Lizzie Finlay is one of the authors and has written the children’s books Little Croc’s Purse and Dandylion. She said: “It has been really good fun and exciting to take part. The children are lovely and so expressive and I think things like this help bring books to life.”
Other authors taking part in the week's activities are Sarah McIntrye, Chris Wormwell, Hannah Shaw, Guy Bass, Sally Nicholls, John Dougherty, Linda Newberry, MG Harris and Bali Rai.
