In light of the current circumstances facing the city in regards to Covid-19, the club will be offering free parking to NHS staff on the current Crumbie Car Park situated behind The Breedon Stand to the south of the stadium.
The club is aware that the Crumbie Car Park is used by staff and visitors to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and hospital staff will be able to show their IDs through the window to car park attendants to minimise exposure.
The Crumbie Car Park holds 140 public spaces with parking now available 24/7 for the time being on a first-come basis, ensuring night shift workers are also able to park. In light of the club’s stance on Covid-19, car park supervision will only be in place sporadically each day and so members of the public are reminded that cars will be left unattended at times at their own risk.
Work has begun on the development of the club’s hotel project on the Granby Halls Car Park site to the north of Welford Road Stadium. Marshalls Commercial Property Development Ltd are leading this project, which will see the construction of the five-floor 183 room hotel.
Leicester Tigers’ Chairman Peter Tom said: “The Coronavirus situation affects us all and presents a massive challenge for the NHS whose staff are doing an incredible job in very difficult circumstances.
“We are keen to offer whatever support we can, particularly for our neighbours at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. With the majority of Leicester Tigers staff now working remotely, this also creates more space for those workers and members of the public to benefit from.”
The Crumbie Car Park will remain open and operational by the club at this stage. This will be reviewed on a weekly basis pending advice from developers, the LRI and the club.
Further updates will be shared by the club over the coming months.
