Leicester Tigers have added 26-year-old wing Ben Woollett to the club’s senior squad on a short-term deal.
Woollett’s opportunity in Dan McKellar’s group comes after his former club, Jersey Reds, unfortunately ceased trading earlier this week.
A towering wing standing at 6ft 5in, Woollett has been in outstanding form for Jersey in the past 12 months, playing a starring role in their Championship title win last season.
On the addition of Woollett, Leicester Tigers Head Coach Dan McKellar said: “We’re really pleased to be able to give Ben an opportunity off the back of a really sad and difficult time for a lot of people at the Jersey Reds.”
“Ben’s an impressive athlete, has an eye for a try and from all reports is a good bloke who will contribute well to the group.”
Woollett added: “This has obviously been an incredibly difficult week but I’m really grateful to Tigers for welcoming me in and giving me this opportunity.”
“Me and my teammates are still coming to terms with everything that has happened with Reds, and I can only hope they, and the many great people at the club will be able to continue their careers and find new opportunities.
“My job now is to put my best foot forward, work hard and get up to speed so I can contribute to the team any way I can.”
Woollett will be in line to make his club debut in this Saturday’s Premiership Rugby Cup clash against Bedford Blues, with a win booking Leicester’s place in the semi-finals.
