Former Leicester Tigers fly-half Mick Freer has died, aged 87.

Born in Stoke Albany, near Market Harborough, Mick played his early rugby at Welland Park School and Kibworth RFC before making his Tigers first-team debut in January 1956.

He was the 100th player to make 100 starting appearances for the club and totalled 203 games over nine years, scoring 15 tries and 66 points in his first-team career. Mick also played for Leicestershire, Leicestershire Police, RAF Bomber Command during national service and Leicester Thursday, and played a prominent role in his local club as player and first-team manager.

The club sends it condolences to family and friends.
