Players visit Children's Hospital

Leicester Tigers' first-team squad brightened up Christmas for dozens of families with a visit to the Children's Hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary on Friday.

Club captain Martin Corry and the rest of the first-team squad, including internationals Ben Kay, George Chuter, Lewis Moody, Martin Castrogiovanni and Aaron Mauger, spent the afternoon with children and their families in the hospital, signing autographs, posing for photos and handing out chocolate selection packs kindly donated by our friends at Cadbury.

Tina Clegg, service manager at the Children's Hospital, said: "We always welcome the players, they interact very well with the children and their families and the staff, and bring a lot of pleasure to everyone in the Children’s Hospital.

“The players always lift the spirits of the children and put a smile on their face.

“The visit means a lot to everyone in the hospital – the families, the children and also the staff. You can see on their faces what the visit means to everyone.

“We really appreciate the time the players take out to do this.”

Tigers captain Martin Corry said: "Christmas is a special time for families and if we can help raise the spirits of any of those who unfortunately have to spend it in hospital then we are happy to do so.

"Rugby is our living but it is also important to appreciate that there is a life away from sport and that so many people are less fortunate. A lot of the guys in the squad have young families of their own and they are only too keen to do what they can to help.”

The Tigers Christmas Toy Appeal, which was very well supported by Tigers fans again this year, provided gifts for Rainbows Children’s Hospice and LOROS. The club would like to thank all of those supporters who donated so generously.
