Prop Cortes makes a move to Tigers

Leicester Tigers have agreed terms to bring Argentinean prop Gaston Cortes to Welford Road ahead of the 2018/19 season.

First capped by Argentina in 2011, Cortes has been with Bristol Rugby for the last six seasons, playing more than 100 games for the club, including 21 in their Premiership season in 2016/17.

Cortes, 32, said: “As a globally-known club, moving to Leicester was something I couldn’t turn down. The ambition, quality of squad and how the coaches see me developing further made it an easy decision.

“I can’t wait to embed myself in the culture of the club, meet the fans and prove that I am worthy enough to wear the special shirt.”

Tigers head coach Matt O’Connor said: “Gaston is known for the quality of his scrummaging and his ball-carrying, and we look forward to bringing him in during the summer.

“He has worked with our forwards coach Mark Bakewell before and he joins a very strong group of front-rowers here.”
