Julián Montoya described the win over Edinburgh Rugby at Mattioli Woods Welford Road as a "proper rugby game" when speaking post-match.

The Leicester Tigers front-rower also pinpointed a commitment to the plan in place as reasons for helping secure a place in the 2022/23 Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals.

"It was a tough, tough game tonight but a real proper rugby game too," said Montoya.

"I am proud of the team on how we delivered the result tonight and also for the way we stuck to the game plan."

Asked if he enjoyed the match in any extra way, given what was at stake, he replied: "I enjoyed it, yes, but I enjoy every game with this club."

"Of course to be in games like this, knockout rugby, is something that you chase as a group and it is why we train hard and prepare like we do, to be a part of games like this."

Jasper Wiese's second-half cameo off the bench won the back-rower the Heineken Star of the Match award, which Montoya said was off no surprise to him.

Responding to questions about his fellow forward's performance, Montoya said: "There is nothing I can say that you didn't see tonight, we all know what Jasper can do."

"I am not surprised that he delivered tonight. We needed that tonight, from the bench, and he just constantly puts his body on the line for the team.

"He is a great, great man and team player, who puts everyone around him before himself and I am so lucky to play alongside Jasper Wiese."

While high in praise for his teammate, Montoya was quick to point out that many, many more contributed to the victory.

"There were some great performances from people tonight but it is not about individuals, it is about the whole group," added Montoya.

"That is also including those who don't get the chance to pull on the jersey on the weekend either; we have a whole group who are part of preparations every week, coaching team and staff, who all work hard to get the players ready for the game."
