Leicester Tigers are proud to announce academy graduate and Welsh international flanker Tommy Reffell has renewed with the club.
The 25-year-old earned his 100th starting appearance for the club in the East Midlands Derby, wearing the number seven jersey in what was his 128th Tigers game.
Born in Bridgend in Wales, Reffell joined Tigers’ pathways at the age of 15, and progressed through the ranks to make his senior debut as a teenager in 2017.
Performances at junior level caught the eye, not least his stint as captain in his first year at U20s, but Reffell’s stock was growing consistently at Tigers, and in the 2021/22 season, ‘Tommy Turnover’ was born.
Reffell was a key member of the Gallagher Premiership winning team in that season and capped the campaign with his senior Wales debut in the Summer.
Representing his country at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Reffell has now got 27 Welsh caps to his name.
Speaking on his new deal with the club, Reffell said: “I’m so happy to be staying at Tigers.”
“This club has given me so much and I’ve achieved a lot of my goals here, so I just want to keep earning that faith they’ve shown in me through what I do on the field.
“Playing at Mattioli Woods Welford Road and how Tigers supporters have embraced me over the years has definitely been a huge factor in any progress I’ve made and I’m proud to know this is where I’ll be playing my rugby.”
Leicester Tigers general manager, Richard Wilks said: “We’re very pleased to be able to truly celebrate Tommy and his journey with the club to this point with this new deal.”
“Tigers supporters, staff here and all of his teammates have always known how special Tommy is to the club and the contributions he has already made to the jersey, but it’s been amazing to see the rugby world take notice in the past couple of years.
“We’re immensely proud of his development here over the past 10 years and we look forward to seeing him in a Tigers jersey for many years to come.”
