The Leicester Tigers women’s squad have had a first experience of Mattioli Woods Welford Road ahead of this Saturday’s home debut in Championship North.

The players have had a training session at the stadium in preparation for Saturday when Tigers make their home debut in the Women’s Championship North 1 against last season’s league title winners Cheltenham.

Vicky Macqueen, head of the women’s rugby programme, said: “It was a great opportunity and the girls really responded to it. They’re starting to feel inspired by the whole thing and getting excited about it.

“Being part of this squad is new to us all and playing league rugby at this level is a new experience for some of them but they’re all grateful for the opportunity.”

Tigers kicked off their league campaign with a 57-5 victory away to Bishop Auckland and now face a Cheltenham team who topped the division last season with an unbeaten record in the 18-game programme.

Kick-off is at 1.00pm on Saturday and supporters can also watch live coverage of the Gallagher Premiership fixture between Tigers and Saracens in Final Whistle from 3.00pm.

Ticket details for club season ticket holders have been emailed to supporters.

Match tickets are available now, price £9 adults, £2 juniors. All supporters will be located in the Yodel (North) Stand. Final Whistle will be open and the Club Shop will be open as usual through the whole day.
