Report | Tigers defeated in Toulouse

Figure image

Leicester Tigers have fallen 80-12 to the defending Investec Champions Cup holders, Toulouse at Stade Ernest-Wallon.

The result sees Tigers finish third in Pool 1 thanks to victories against Hollywoodbets Sharks and Ulster, and a bonus-point away from home against Bordeaux-Begles.

A first half flurry from Toulouse was simply too much for Tigers on the day, though it was Leicester who came out firing in the opening exchanges.

After defending their line, the home side turned the ball over, cracked Leicester’s defence open and it was Antoine Dupont who would cross for their opening try, Tigers also loosing Izaia Perese to the sinbin in the process.

Thomas Ramos kicked the first of six first half conversions to make it 7-0.

Toulouse made the most of their player advantage and it was Dupont this time turnining provider for centre Dimitri Delibes, the French stars cross-kick just another piece of extraordinary rugby.

Lock Emmanuel Meafou got the first of his two first half tries next, before his second-row partner Thibaud Flament made a searing break to set-up hooker Julian Marchand for a try.

Italian international Ange Capuozzo’s effort was probably the pick of the first half tries, the winger drifting into a gap and showing immense speed and agility to score from long-range.

Tigers went close before the break, but it would remain 42-0 at half time.

A try bonus-point was now the achievable goal for Tigers and after the break, halfback Jack van Poortvliet got Leicester on the board, sniping around the ruck to score.

Jamie Shillcock converted after coming on for Handré Pollard.

Toulouse responded, Flament and Capuozzo the next to score, the latter’s try being another sensational long-range effort.

Ramos made it 54-7.

Tigers looked to have had a second try on the 60-minute mark after a powerful run from Sol Kata, but Perese was judged to have impeded the defence.

It would be Leicester to score next, substitute tighthead Will Hurd coming on and scoring his first Tigers try.

Toulouse fired back mere moments later, Ramos adding a try and another conversion to his points tally.

Flament and Dupont would both claim another try, with Ramos' boot making it 73-12 as the clock ticked to 80.

The home side through Label finished the game with another try and Ramos converted to make it 80-12.
